Of Gangrene, Delta Mall and Late-Night Drives
My Friday (9/7/2010) begins with an SMS from Nadzirah. "I'm done, waiting for you downstairs," it says. 'Oh shit', I think, and I get ready as fast as I can before racing down the steps of the ILF hostel (without tripping). Luckily for me I have a comfy pair of shoes - and both of us walk to the hospital which is about 10-15 minutes in walking time (from ILF to the surgical wards, specifically). We arrive at the hospital and prepare ourselves for some long standing time (as in a long time to stand).
We got some great teaching from our lecturer, even if my feet were about to collapse right then and there. Then again, surgeons are used to standing for long periods of time, so I can't exactly complain. We had a short case with a carbuncle (not a pleasant sight at 8 am, I can tell you that), and much later, a foot gangrene (the dry type)...it was creepy in a sense that it's cold and mummified.
After that, Jessie and I ended up going to Delta Mall (thanks Jessie for taking me out!) We ate KFC there, and since Delta Mall has a supermarket, I could get my weekend grocery shopping done at the same time - two birds with one stone. We passed by the CD shop Putri told us about (where she found SS501's Destination album), and Jessie immediately grabbed the CD off the shelf. While we were looking around the drama section I found Takki's picture on a cover of a drama and I was like WTF!
I remember the good old times when I was a BIG BIG fan of Takizawa Hideaki (affectionately nicknamed Takki/Tackey). Aziemah and I were basically crazy about Takki and Tsubasa (as well as Vanness Wu, but that was her in particular), and having watched Vanness' recent drama 'Next stop, happiness/Autumn's Concerto', I think of how much WE have grown. Seriously =_=

Anyway, about the drama. Apparently Takki was starring in 'Orthros no Inu' with Nishikido Ryo, so I flipped the DVD and read the synopsis. God Hand...Devil hand...interesting, I thought, so I brought it over to the counter to have it tested (you know sometimes store-bought DVDs have lousy English subs, so I had to make sure). The subs were great, quality was above-good, so I was like, 'ok, let's buy this'. Later I got my grocery shopping done (to my dismay, there was no Mi Sedap original flavour - which is my favourite instant noodle), and went back to ILF to get my chores done (laundry! Thank God for the sun here).
While waiting for dinner time, I went to watch Orthros no Inu first episode, and I was quite amazed, actually. I like it how the drama isn't so lovey lovey (I'm sick of lovey dramas ==) and it has this mystery/thriller thing going on, kinda like Death Note. My inner 'thirteen/fourteen-year-old fangirl' was squee-ing at the sight of an evil!Takki (his name is Ryuuzaki, which is L's pseudonym in Death Note XD).
Apparently Aoi (played by Nishikido Ryo) is a kind-hearted, righteous teacher who loves his students, but he has the Devil's hand, which can kill with just a touch (he's the 'angel with the Devil's hand); while Ryuuzaki (played by Takki) is a death-row prisoner charged with murder of 3 people and some kind of dark introvert has the God's hand, which can cure and heal any injuries/illnesses (he's the 'demon with the God's hand'). Stuck in between them is Inspector Hasebe Nagisa, a lady cop who was saved by Aoi and she appears to be a single mom. (I saw the spoiler when I joined their LJ comm - she might have a relationship with Ryuuzaki, but I have to continue watching). (Btw, the forensic pathologist in the story is named Chiharu. Bwahahaha LOL)
By the time I finished one ep, it was already 6 pm, and I went to cook porridge. Jessie told me that mixing porridge with oats can 'trick' me into eating oats (not exactly trick, just make the oats taste better), so I tried it out. Turns out, she (and her mom, who told her that) was right! The oats blended in well with the rice I didn't notice I was eating oats in the first place. =_= I don't like oats, so I hope this can be the solution to my being forced to eat oats for my heart's health thing.
Later that night, it started raining and Anis (Syahirah) came into my room. She invited me to go out with Megat and her. At first I was a little hesitant, it being raining and 8 pm and all, but since I have nothing better to do (well actually I do, called 'studying'), I decided to go with them. We went to the supermarket (where I found my Mi Sedap! On sale! So I bought an extra pack!), and later, into town for a late dinner (I didn't eat anything, since I already ate). Mama told me that Sibu was dangerous at night, but it wasn't *that* scary when you go to the correct places. I mean, I half-expected to see a shoot-out or gangsters and whores conquering the streets. (Too much American movies)
We passed by a kampung Melayu (a surprise for me because it was pretty close to the town centre) where there's like a old-school kedai runcit selling bread and stuff, and later, we went back to ILF (about 11 pm). It's the first time I've been out so late in Sibu, and frankly, it wasn't so bad. :D
All in all, I'm glad that I now don't have to go out today or tomorrow for groceries and stuff. Lots of things to study for next week's assessment. *gulp*
